Home Shows

Inspirations: A blog about my life as a decorator, what inspires me and makes me smile.

I’ve been neglectful of this blog. Yikes. But I was reminded today that home show season is right around the corner so….let’s blog about that! There is so much building going on in our area that the local home shows are a great way to reach out to potential clients. People are searching the aisles for products, ideas and local vendors. With a professional, eye catching booth you can reel them in, talk about your services and start designing! There really is no downside to doing the home shows except sore feet. I’ll live.

The What I Did On My Summer Vacation Post.

Inspirations: A blog about my life as a decorator, what inspires me and makes me smile.

Every summer I am lucky enough to visit family and friends in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

The cabin we stay in is on the St. Mary’s River and has a wonderful view of the constant river traffic, whether it be Canadian Geese and Osprey or the truly awesome lake freighters traveling up and down the river.

One of my favorite activities in the Soo in the summer is going on the treasure hunts, aka  hitting all the garage/estate sales every weekend.  (Actually the sales start on Fridays, this is hardcore rummaging.)  Bean and I choose to do the 20 hour drive to Michigan so we can load up the car with our fun, must have finds. Past summers we have procured vintage poker tables, collections of vintage cocktail glasses and wall mounted steer horns (love). This trip proved to be just as successful.  Treasures from this summers hunt include His and Hers embroidered linen hand towels, crusty old bottles I will use as vases and the best find, 7 mid-century Leg-O-Matic wooden folding chairs!

They are fantastic, they need refinishing and new fabric for the seats but I love them. What great extra seating that stores away beautifully. With research I discovered that they were the chairs furnished with the Air Stream campers back in the day.  Best thing… I paid $5.00 for them, not each, but $5.00 for all 7. Ha.

As with any good hunt there is always the one that got away.  My Mom and her friend Bev (my favorite hunting companions) found this set of Atomic Z lamps the week before I arrived!  Bev scooped them right up.
I am still green with envy….
